Medicaid coverage for maternal health services in North Carolina has expanded to improve access to care before, during, and after pregnancy.

Eligible individuals may now receive comprehensive support throughout their maternal journey, including extended postpartum care for up to 12 months following birth. This expansion is designed to ensure continuity of care, improve outcomes, and provide ongoing support during recovery and early motherhood.

While coverage for services such as clinical care and postpartum support is established, access to additional support services  including doula care  is evolving across the state through pilot programs, managed care plans, and ongoing policy development.
